Webmaster
G'day. My name is Tony Ey. I joined the RAN in 1965 and spent the following 20 years of my life in the Royal Australian Navy's Clearance Diving Branch.
2008
The majority of my career was spent in the Clearance Diving Teams with active war service in the 8th CDT3 to serve in South Vietnam during 1970 & 1971.
I was also posted to the diving school as an instructor and spent 12 months as the Explosives/Demolition instructor at the RAN EOD school.
One of the highlights of my career was a 3 year 'Personnel Exchange' posting as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (E8) with the US Navy's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group One (EODGRUONE) based in Hawaii 1977 - 1980. During this exchange I took the opportunity to obtain my US pilot's licence.
Both my brothers also became Clearance Divers and my son Jason is now the 4th member of my family to be a member of the Clearance Diving Branch.
After leaving the Navy, I spent 10 years with an international explosives manufacturer before establishing a business in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Hunting feral pigs in Western Queensland, going to gym, regular overseas travel and riding my Suzuki 'M109R' motorcycle provides me with enough adrenaline to keep me relatively sane in my retirement.
Vivid memories of the most dramatic and influential period of my life stirred me to produce this site 33 years after we came home. Anyone who served in that war would agree that Vietnam is forever a part of you.

"I now know why men who have served together in war yearn to reunite.
Not to tell stories or look at old pictures. Not to laugh or weep.
Comrades gather because they long to be with the men who together had
performed at their level best, who suffered and sacrificed, who were
stripped of their humanity. I did not pick these men. They were delivered
by fate and the military. But I know them in a way I know no other men. I
have never given any others such trust. They were willing to guard
something more precious than my life. They carry my reputation, the memory
of me. It was part of the bargain we all made, the reason we were, if need
be, willing to die for one another and for our country. As long as I have
memory, I will think of them all every day. I am sure that when I leave
this world, my last thoughts will be of my family -- and of my comrades in
arms. Such great men."
